1. What's the difference between a productive and non-productive cough?

A non-productive cough is a dry, hacking cough that is often caused by the minor throat and bronchial irritation that accompanies the common cold or from inhaling irritants in the air. A productive cough brings up phlegm/mucus and may be beneficial in clearing airways.

2. How can one dose of Delsym® 12 Hour Cough Liquid provide longer cough relief than one dose of other cough suppressant liquids?

Delsym 12 Hour Cough Liquid is made with a patented time-release formulation that provides cough relief for up to 12 hours per dose.

3. When will I start to feel relief once using Delsym® products?

Some individuals may start to feel the effects soon after dosing while for others it may take longer or it may take several doses. If you have any additional questions, please be sure to speak with your healthcare provider.

4. Can I use Delsym® while pregnant?

Please ask your healthcare provider before use if you are pregnant.

5. Can Delsym® products be used with an existing medical condition (i.e. diabetes, asthma, etc.)?

Speak with your healthcare provider if you are under a doctor's care for an existing medical condition or are taking any other medication before taking Delsym® products.

6. Does the Delsym® product dosage need to be adjusted for different body mass index (BMI)?

No, the Delsym® product dosage for adults and children 12 years of age and older should be followed using the dosing directions on the product label. There is no adjustment for BMI. For further questions please contact your healthcare provider.

7. Does Delsym 12 Hour Cough Liquid contain a fever reducer or pain reliever?

No. Delsym contains a single active ingredient, dextromethorphan, which controls cough.

8. Can Delsym be taken with other medications?

If you are taking any other medications, you should talk to your health care provider before using Delsym.

9. Can I use another measuring device in place of the cup provided with my Delsym® product?

No. Measure only with dosing cup provided. Do not use dosing cup with other products.

10. So many cough and cold medications, including Delsym, warn against use with an MAOI. What is an MAOI?

Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOI) are drugs used to treat depression, psychiatric or emotional conditions, or Parkinson's disease. If you are taking an MAOI drug, consult with your doctor before you take any medicines. If you do not know if your prescription drug contains an MAOI, ask a doctor or pharmacist before taking this product. Do not use Delsym for two weeks after stopping MAOI use.

11. If the products are kept outside of recommended temperature listed on package, can product still be used?

It is not advisable to use products stored outside of the recommended storage temperatures since pharmaceutical products have a specific storage temperature range. The temperature should be maintained to ensure the product’s ability to produce beneficial effects. Please refer to the product labeling for storage temperature information.

12. Can I use expired product?

We do not recommend using expired product and cannot assure the effectiveness of a product past its expiration date.
